What is Cellulite and How to Treat it

As the warmer months approach many women become increasingly concerned about how they look on the beach or around the pool. At this time, one of the most complained about cosmetic problems is cellulite and for many women it is the only thing stopping them from stepping out in their favorite swimsuit.

There are many different cellulite treatments on the market. To find one that will work for you it is important to first know what cellulite is and how it occurs.

Underneath the skin, there are small bags of fat that are contained in a honeycomb-like network of fibrous tissue. As surplus fat begins to accumulate, it projects out from the fibrous pockets and presses against the skin layered on top. It is this action that causes the dents, dimples and crevices that are the tell tale signs of cellulite.

If you want a natural approach to treating the condition then plant based products like coffee and seaweed should be used. These ingredients are thought to stimulate the body to liquidate fat. It is possible to buy these products from the supermarket or herbalists but many people prefer to use cellulite creams which have them included as ingredients. You will have to massage the cellulite cream into the problem areas at least two times per day.

Alternative treatments to cellulite cream normally utilize machines in some way. The Tri-Active machine has only just launched on to the market and it uses a combination of suction massage and laser therapy. The machine should be used by a trained technician. The suction massage helps to stimulate lymphatic drainage and this causes the built up fluid to be drained from the fat pockets. The laser therapy helps to improve the look of the skin by stimulating collagen production. The major downside of this treatment is the cost – a course of eight sessions is priced at well over US$1000.

Velasmooth is another machine-based therapy that as a good reputation for results. As with Tri-Active, a laser therapy is used. However, a radio frequency is combined with laser to attack the fibrous tissues that cause cellulite underneath the skin. A session with the Velasmooth machine will cost about $100.

While all these treatments can help improve the look of cellulite by around 70 per cent, they will not eliminate it completely. Combining these treatments with proper diet and exercise will improve the condition even more.
